The Nashville Grade School Board of Education met last night for a short meeting. They first approved of Ashley Engele as assistant cheerleading coach. They then had to deal with Paul Barczewski no longer cutting grass or doing snow removal, so the Board approved of HP Lawn Care for the mowing, but it will be at $5 more per cutting than before. They then approved of Glen D. Snead Trucking & Excavating to do the snow removal, but it will cost $15 per hour more than before. Superintendent Mike Brink told the Board that the Lego club is going great and they will be opening it up to 7th and 8th graders, which will mean there will be 3 nights per month. He also said Rick Jones & Family are donating $500 towards the Lego club. Also, the cooking club met for the first time and there were 35 to 40 students in attendance. He reported that they held parent meetings dealing with the Common Core Standards and the new testing, but there was only moderate attendance. All the information has been put on the Nashville Grade School website for viewing. Brink then updated the Board on the Hoyleton Grade School situation and what to expect in the coming months. They will have a community meeting on December 1st at 7 PM and as he understands it, Dr. Osborne will be presenting the feasibility study with the details and the Hoyleton Board of Education could meet within a couple of weeks afterwards to vote to proceed or not on dissolution and annexation of the school. The study did come back favorable towards dissolution and annexation, so the ball is in their court at this time on a decision. He then reported that the Regional Office of Education conducted a mini-compliance visit this month, and while the written report isn’t completed, there were no findings on compliance issues, but it was suggested that the closets be tidied up. Principal Chuck Fairbanks ran down the end of the fall sports with the baseball team winning 3rd in State and the girls’ cross country team winning 2nd in State. The PSO dance is tonight from 6 to 9 PM, Red Ribbon Week is next week and Family Reading Night is November 20th. Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday, the next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 25th at 8 PM.
