The National Center for Appropriate Technology Gulf States office is partnering with the National Women in Agriculture Coastal Region to host a free beginning farmer workshop 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Greene County, MS, Saturday, Feb. 15. To be held at McIntosh Homes, 1320 MS Highway 63N, Leakesville, MS, 39451, the workshop will include such topics as government assistance for beginning farmers, livestock and vegetable production, and small intensive farming or market gardening. Anyone interested in starting to ranch or farm or expanding a personal garden to sell crops is invited to attend. While the workshop is free, space is limited and registration is required. For more information or to register, contact Darlene Campbell, 601-947-0441 or email victoriousca@gmail. Or call the NCAT Gulf States Office in Jackson, (866) 643-2767. The NCAT Gulf States office opened in Jackson in June. Headquartered in Butte, Mont., NCAT is a nonprofit offering assistance for sustainable living — farming, energy, and information — to reduce poverty, promote healthy communities, and protect natural resources. The workshops are made possible through NCAT’s ATTRA program, the National Sustainable Agriculture Information Service. For more information about NCAT, see: ncat.org, or attra.ncat.org
