In a school setting, poverty can impede students ability to learn, contribute to social skills, and cause emotional and behavioral problems. Some educational researchers believe poverty can affect students educational output, productivity, well-being and mental health. Providing educational programs to enhance the skill level of parents who live at or below extreme poverty can increase Americas workforce and decrease the number of students living in poverty.
