The National Guard is the branch of the military that protects “our” own people in urgent situations. The Boston Marathon bombing, yep that was the National Guard patrolling the streets. Also you have the numerous opportunities in the National Guard. Some of those opportunities are to move from state to state, go to college full time, work a civilian job to increase your income and live a normal lifestyle while being a soldier. The Active Army will assign you a duty location and that is your home, regardless if you like it or not. If you want to protect your own family and the people in this state and country from harm’s way, the National Guard is for you. If you want to protect foreign policy then the Active Army might be your best option. The National Guard also has a second mission which is to support foreign policy, but we getting more focused more on our main mission, and that’s to protect each inch of this countries land. As a recruiter for the Army National Guard, you are my best interest. I am not some active duty recruiter who is only here for a few years and only cares about making their “mission” of putting people in. Once you join my team, you are a part of this family. We will see each other and might even be in the same unit together. So feeding you a line just to get you to join would NOT benefit me or this “family”. The great thing about the National Guard is if you chose to go Active Army later on, you can submit a DD Form 368 to your commander and have the option to get switched over. But once you sign up for Active Army, you are locked into that contract for the full term. I spent over four years in the Active Army, so I know the deal.
