The National Optical Astronomy Observatory is accepting - TopicsExpress

The National Optical Astronomy Observatory is accepting applications from teachers for the 2014 fall workshop scheduled for Friday, September 26th. The workshop participants will meet at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory’s headquarters (on the University of Arizona campus) and travel by motor coach to Kitt Peak National Observatory for an all day workshop that will conclude with a star party under the dark skies of Kitt Peak before returning to Tucson. The workshop is free and all meals and transportation is included. Project Astro is a national program started by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. Each teacher is paired with a local astronomer who visits the classroom throughout the school year to partner with the teacher in astronomy education activities. Project Astro focuses on teachers from 3rd through 9th grade (but teachers of older and younger students have participated in the program successfully). The teachers will learn a variety of astronomy education activities with their astronomer partner throughout the day. Each teacher receives the Universe At Your Fingertips DVD which contains hundreds of astronomy activities suitable for a wide range of audiences. Teachers who complete the workshop may check out activity kits from NOAO to use in their classrooms throughout the school year. Although the workshop is free, space is limited. Teachers from throughout the state of Arizona may apply. Visit noao.edu/education/astrotucson.html/ to download an application form.
