The National Pledge: We, the citizens of Singapore, pledge ourselves as one united people, regardless of race, language or religion, to build a democratic society based on justice and equality so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation. Sometimes alot of us need to be reminded that its regardless of race, language or religion. To achieve happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation. All of us form the nation god damn it! Stop judging and stereotyping people! I am born a Hindu. I went to a lutheran child care centre before going to primary school. Visiting churches, bible studies was part of the curriculum. My teachers taught me to be kind and compassionate. Growing up, both my parents were working professionals. My malay neighbour baby sat me and sent me to school everyday. I ate her cooking growing up. Meals were simple but delicious. Tried soya sauce with white rice and fried fish before? Watching them pray at home every friday was a norm. I watched malay tv programmes and learnt malay at the age of 7. Learnt what the Quran was and how arabic characters look like. My neighbours were nurturing and taught me that even simple things could keep you contented. During secondary school, i lived with my grandparents and they were hindus. They prayed everyday. I only went to the temple every friday without fail to pray with them. As i hardly went out, they were very strict, i always looked forward to fridays as i could go out of the house. They taught me discipline and to focus on priorities. If you ask me which religion is better than the other, the answer is there isnt. Every religion contributed to the attributes that i have today. I value the people and their actions that have contributed to my personal development. Dont be quick to judge people without knowing them. Stereotyping based on religion or race is wrong. Look at the attributes of the person and their achievements. At the end of the day with all our differences, the colour of our blood is still red!
