The National Security Council chaired by the President is the civilian security organ to be held to account for the escalating insecurity in Kenya. The Council is made up the President, Deputy President, Cabinet Secretaries for Defense, Internal, Foreign, Attorney General, Chief of Defense Forces, Director General NIS, and Inspector General NPS. Th Core functions of the Council are: exercise supervisory over national security organs; facilitate framework of the security organs to cooperate and function effectively; and asses and appraise the objectives, commitments and risks.
