The National Standards for History remind us: https://youtube/watch?v=_WVtpao0KSM James Earl Jimmy Carter, Jr. (born October 1, 1924) is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party who served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. He was awarded the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize. Historical memory is the key to self-identity, to seeing ones place in the stream of time, and ones connectedness with all of humankind. We are part of an ancient chain, and the long hand of the past is upon us—for good or ill—just as our hands will rest on our descendants for years to come. Denied knowledge of ones roots and of ones place in the great stream of human history, the individual is deprived of the fullest sense of self and of that sense of shared community on which ones fullest personal development as well as responsible citizenship depends. In short, world history helps us think about what it means to be human and about the characteristics that all humans have in common. The more we learn, the more there is to learn, but in order to move forward we have to master the secrets of the past, understand our stories, and draw connections among civilizations that have shaped the very foundation of life as we know it today. “It is never late to ask yourself “Am I ready to change my life, am I ready to change myself?”. However old we are, whatever we went through, it is always possible to reborn. If each day is a copy of the last one, what a pity! Every breath is a chance to reborn. But to reborn into a new life, you have to die before dying. ~ Shams Tabrizi”.
