The National Water Commission is once again the target of theft - TopicsExpress

The National Water Commission is once again the target of theft and vandalism in less than one month of the last reported case at the same facility. The latest incident took place on Sunday, January 4, 2015 in St. Catherine, where operations at the Portmore Pines Sewage Pumping Station came to a halt as a result of the theft of vital equipment and the vandalism of the station. According to ONeil Shand, Acting Vice President for Wastewater Operations, the NWC continues to be plagued by the wanton destruction of its property. This incident, he says also comes on the heels of recent action taken by the Commission to remove illegal electrical connections from the facility. This ruthless act of vandalism resulted in the sewage station being put out of operation while repairs were effected. The NWC continues to express its disappointment at the insensitivity of those persons who indulge in these acts of depravity. Mr. Shand also stated that such acts, jeopardize the smooth operations of the Commission and in turn affect the public at large. The matter has been reported to the police and investigations are being done. The NWC regrets the inconvenience caused to its valued customers and continues to appeal to the public to report any suspicious activities observed at its facilities.
