The National Weather Service in New York has issued a COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY and FLASH FLOOD WARNING for portions of Southern Connecticut which includes New London county and Old Lyme. This WARNING and WATCH is in effect from Friday morning through Saturday. Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches of rain are expected with locally higher amounts possible. Winds from the Northeast are expected this evening with gusts exceeding 30 MPH. The COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY is for the entire Connecticut coast line from 8:00pm this evening through 1:00am Saturday morning. Tidal surges of 1-2 ft are expected. The most significant impact continues to be urban flooding. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small streams and low lying areas. Local roadways and underpasses will also be affected. Persons living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take immediate action should rising waters develop. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY.. It is recommended that residents continue to review their contingency plans with family and friends and to share the links for Old Lyme Emergency Management on Facebook and @oldlymeeoc on twitter for the latest information and updates. During this storm event, the Old Lyme EOC Call Center @ 860-598-0120 is currently being monitored. Persons with storm related concerns may leave a message and your call will be returned. For emergencies please call 911 directly. To report power related issues contact CLP at 800-286-2000 Further updates will be forwarded as the need arises. ###
