The National Weather Service is a little more confident that Brazoria County will receive some icy conditions early Friday morning. We have a 50 – 60% chance of ice accumulations of 0.10 inch or less. A 10 – 20% chance of ice accumulations of up to 0.25 inch. No chance of snow. The most likely time for the county is between 1:00 AM and 9:00 AM, tomorrow. The freeze line will fall along I-10 around midnight and start working toward the coast, reaching the shore around 6:00 AM. Rain is expected to be present throughout this period. Temperatures will begin warming around 9:00 AM and the rain will be stopping around the same time. By noon tomorrow, conditions will still be cold, but not as hazardous. Friday night, temperatures will drop to near freezing overnight, but ice should not be an issue. This weather will be moving north to south, with the more extreme temperatures occurring in the northern third of the county. Bridges and overpasses will be the most vulnerable to icing. Winds are expected to be strong all night and through the morning; 20 – 30 mph. Fortunately, the ground is nowhere near frozen and with the few hours we will be below 32 degrees, it should not freeze, preventing heavy ice accumulations on other than bridges and elevated roadways. Saturday should be nice. Recommendations: if you don’t have to go out tonight, stay home. Allow yourself plenty of time to get to work or other destinations tomorrow morning. Protect your pipes and keep your vehicle gas tank full. GL120
