The Navy is commemorating the Battle of the River Plate next weekend, among other events with a parade along Queen Street Auckland on Saturday 13 December. The day marks the 75th anniversary of the battle, in which the New Zealand warship HMS ACHILLES was one of three ships to engage the German ship ADMIRAL GRAF SPEE near the mouth of the River Plate near Montevideo in Uruguay.
