The Near Eastern leopard, once found throughout the Caucasus region, was thought to have disappeared in the 1960s. But recent surveys show the animals still exists in small numbers in Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan. At least one male and two females are believed to have been living in an area of Southern Armenia for the last year, giving hope that one of the females may produce cubs.
