The Nepean Times - 7 November 1914 ADVANCE, PENRITH. It is always a pleasure to record instances of progress in our town and district, and in this connection we are glad to see that Mr Upton (mercer and outfitter) is now fully installed in the splendid new premises which have been recently erected for the purposes of his business on the site of his (Uptons) old shop (Woodriffs buildings) in High Street. The new emporium is a fine roomy structure, well up to the Metropolitan standard, and splendidly fitted, and in every manner conducive to the best display of goods. The shop is fitted with two spacious window fronts, and possesses all the essentials of a modern establishment. The residential quarters are also very well designed, with plenty of space on the two floors, and on the whole the building reflects credit on the architect (Mr C J Fowler) and contractor (Mr Everingham), who is at present engaged with a staff of workmen on finishing off an adjacent shop on same block of land, and for same owner (Mr Woodriff) as Mr Uptons establishment. We heartily congratulate our enterprising townsman on opening his new premises.
