The Netherlands is one of the most liberal places out there. Many houses do not roll down blinds; passersby are simply expected to resist the temptation to look in. However, the Dutch officials recently concluded that Google is infiltrating the private lives of its citizens way too much. This finding is similar to the one the French authorities found last year. The French are planning to fine Google upto $204,000 for ignoring their 3 month deadline to change its privacy policy. This is probably how much a senior analyst at the firm makes every year. The tech behemoths net income in 2012 was $10.7 billion. Its obvious that Eric Schmidt will happily write a check to the French authorities and continue to ignore such deadlines. Governments around the world need to wake up to the reality that they are dealing with organizations that have balance sheets to rebalance their respective countries fiscal and monetary situations.
