The New York Jets plan to lessen the load on second-year - TopicsExpress

The New York Jets plan to lessen the load on second-year quarterback Geno Smith by keeping him under 20 passes per game according to Tony Pauline of TFY Draft Insider. While this sounds like a pretty far-fetched concept under the normally pass-happy offensive coordinator Mary Morninhweg, the theory is to re-implement a more run oriented offense in 2014 in an attempt to exploit their strengths. Apparently, the team does not consider Geno Smith to be a strength. The move would not be unprecedented under head coach Rex Ryan, who had this style of ofeense succeed for several years under QB Mark Sanchez to the tune of two appearances in the AFC Championship game. The Jets will attempt to hide their quarterback with a strong defense and higher-volume rushing attack.
