The Newkirk NM Bridge (site). This one is rather tough to access. I have been fortunate to walk it, bike it, and drive it, but the current signage suggests this may no longer be an option. I may or may not have walked in via the dry creek bed the last time. Location: 35.065784,-104.212517 This fragment is reported to be 66 in the 1920s and 1930s, and who knows what before that (perhaps Ozark Trail and/or Postal Route). In one discussion with a rancher in the vicinity, the bridge was imploded in the 1970s for the sake of scrapping the steel. Unfortunately (for him), the bridge collapsed upon itself, leaving much of the steel too difficult to extract. If you prowl around a little, you can find nearby concrete remains that suggest an even earlier bridge structure was located immediately parallel to, and north of, the existing ruins.
