The Niger State House of Assembly has expressed its support to the traditional rulers in the state to enable them discharge their fatherly role of strengthening unity and harmonious co – existence among their people. The Speaker Barrister Adamu Usman gave the assurance while speaking at hauwan bariki, the traditional horse riding to climax Sallah festivities of Bida Emirate at wadata palace in Bida. Barrister Adamu Usman who spoke extensively on the importance of traditional institution said no responsible government would play lip service to the well being of our royal fathers. The speaker who commended the Etsu – Nupe and Chairman of the state council of traditional rulers Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar for his leadership qualities noted with satisfaction that Etsu – Nupe has been the vanguard of peaceful co-existence, love for another, and care for the needy not only in Bida Emirate but the state in general. He said the peace and tranquility being enjoyed in all parts of the state was due largely to the effort and commitment of our traditional rulers under the able leadership of Etsu-Nupe Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar whom the speaker described as an epitome of peace and unity. He explained that the priority attention being giving to traditional rulers in the state by the present administration under Governor 2 Muazu Babangida Aliyu was because of government conviction of their enormous role of moral upbringing, peace, security of lives and property as well as religious tolerance among their subjects. The Speaker used the forum to reaffirm the readiness of the Assembly to always collaborate with other arms of government to ensure speedy implementation of government policies and programmes especially vision three twenty twenty. Barrister Usman assured that he State house of Assembly would always support the traditional rulers and the state government in their quest to guarantee harmonious co-existence among diverse ethnic groups, entrenchment of law and order, strengthening of interfaith relations among others. The speaker also informed the Etsu Nupe that the state legislature has passed into law, a bill seeking the establishment of the state vigilante corps which he personally sponsored with the view to complimenting effort of other security agencies in protecting lives and property ,as well as maintenance of law and order adding that the corps has been of immense benefit to the state given the reduction of criminal activities in the state. Earlier the Etsu Nupe and chairman of the state council of traditional rulers Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar had commended his people for their continued support and cooperation and urged them not to relent. He said the event was aimed at bringing the 3 people of the emirate together for a common goal of ensuring unity among them. The traditional ruler commended the speaker for associating himself with bida emirate and prayed God to guide and protect him in the discharge of his duties.
