The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress will - TopicsExpress

The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress will today (Wednesday) lead workers to the National Assembly to protest the decision of the Senate to remove the Minimum Wage Law from the Exclusive legislative list to the concurrent list. The Senate had during the recent Constitution amendment exercise voted for the decentralization of negotiations on the National Minimum Wage Act, but the House of Representatives overwhelmingly shut down the proposal. While the proposal awaits harmonization of both houses, the leadership of the NLC and TUC, at a meeting with the Principal Officers of the House of Representatives on Tuesday in Abuja, unveiled the plans to stage a protest to the Senate to register their displeasure over the proposal. The protest, according to the NLC President, Abdulwahed Omar, would take off from the NLC headquarters at the Central Business District, and terminate at the Senate where the unions were expected to deliver a protest letter to the Senate President, David Mark.
