The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA started transaction - TopicsExpress

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA started transaction for the purchase of two BMW for the Minister of Aviation, Mrs Stella Odua in June, but the request for the delivery of and payment for the cars was fast-tracked between 13 and 15 August, 2013 The 2 BMW cars were reported to be worth N255million and this has made many people including her haters and the enemies of her progress to call for the sack of the minster. In reaction to this, Mr. Joe Obi, the Aviation Minister’s special assistant on the media, confirmed the purchase, claiming that the vehicles were purchased to protect the minister from some external threats. He also claimed that “It should be noted that these vehicles are not personal vehicles and were not procured in the name of the honorable minister; they are utility vehicles and are for the office of the minister, and if she leaves the office, she will not be taking the vehicles along with her” To me, this is not the right time to buy such vehicles. The nation has been faced with so many challenges of which those Vehicles are not even amongst the least of them. There is a scale of preference whereby our needs are arranged in order of priority. Is buying those cars the most important in such list? I have been watching how the Igbos have been vehemently defending and protecting Stella Oduah against her perceived political enemies especially Fani Kayode et al who had been having sleepless nights simply cos Oduah was achieving what he could not achieve. I have watched how some tribalists have been calling for the resignation of the aviation minister for one sentimental reason or the other. Now the questions I am asking myself are: Was she aware that such vehicles are to be bought for her? If yes, did she demand for such expensive vehicles? If yes, then there is problem, but if no, then I think NCAA should be probed instead. But is it possible for the 2 cars to be purchased at such an “arm and a leg” price without the knowledge of the minister? Did Stella Odua or the NCAA forget that in Nigeria, no successor agrees to use the things (especially vehicles) used by his predecessors but always order for renewal not minding if the things are still in good shape? So why go for an automobile which falls under a recurrent expenditure at such an upscale price? CASEY
