The Nigerian press is a disgrace to journalism! Since 2009 when the boko haram insurgency took the baton of treason against the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Nigerian press has been missing in action. This is a far cry from what the profession demands and has resulted in the near zero quality account of the fight against the sovereignty of this nation and her innocent citizens. From foreign stables, one sees reporters live at the action front. You see gentlemen of the press in live vest and helmets running after bullets with cameras and microphones. That is how it was possible for a Nigerian at the neglected village of Obibi in Rivers State to tell the stories of USA in Iraq, Afghanistan, the stories of the Arab spring and the unending disagreement at the Gaza strip. Back home in Nigeria, our press men are tucked in blazers, agbada, etibor and the best collections of bowler hats smiling in and out government branded trucks; their cameras and microphones belted at the back seat while the assorted bags of ghana-must-go and brown envelopes enjoy the front seat. We didnt see them in the creeks of the Niger Delta, neither are they anywhere near sambisa forest, gwoza, michika, mubi, et al. The best we get from their tabloids is a window dressed exhibition of tweets and Facebook posts from comical characters wearing different perfumes of political parties and religious cults. The videos we have seen so far have either been the ones released by book haram or selfies purportedly captured in refurbished phones by fleeing SOURCES who do not want their names in print. What a shame! Our press has been divided into communication gadgets of politicians and political parties- all they do now is sit in their cubicles and spread with the speed of Ebola, contagious dictations from some cash cows. Has boko haram taken over half of Borno State? We do not know. Are our girls still alive where they are hidden? We do not know....but ask them when Tambuwal will decamp to APC, they already have the answer even before the man makes up his mind....Ask them what Metuh wants to describe APC as, they already know even before the paper is written. But when it comes to issues adorned with the challenges and adventure of journalism, they dont show up at the office. Days after, you begin to read contradictory copy and paste junks they picked from different press secretaries of politicians. These crop too will be somewhere demanding performance from public office holders, abi? Taaaaa....make una gerrout! Yeye people! Shame on our press, they are cowards! The Nigerian press is a disgrace! Eze Basil Chinwendu Oluo DOracle.
