The Nightmare Before #Thanksgiving. Weve got over 120 people reserved for Heavens 7th Thanksgiving dinner so you can imagine that theres quite a bit to organize. Many months in advance, Alissa arranged with a local farmer to raise 20 turkeys. We monitored their progress, their feed, and their health. Disaster struck yesterday morning. We went out to the farm to learn that the turkeys were gone. Apparently some of our American brethren went out to the farm waving wads of cash and made off with Heavens turkeys. As laws on #turkeynapping are unenforced here, our executive chef and manager set off on a motorbike to scour the area for more. Minutes later were hit by a car. Alissa received a phone call from a bystander who found one of their phones. Her anxiety rose when neither could speak. An hour later we learned that the injuries were gratefully not severe -- some knocked teeth and a twisted knee. Amidst all three of Alissas cell phones ringing -- coordinating health care, taking new reservations, and calls for her sweet potato supplier -- the German Butcher (yes, hes German and Kigalis finest butcher) saved the day with a report that he had dozens of farm-raised turkeys at the ready. So now were easing into pumpkin pie and apple pie production and looking forward to giving thanks for everything tomorrow.
