The Ninety-Nines Inspiring Women Pilots Since 1929! Ninety-Nines Awarded $6,000 Lightspeed Aviation Foundation Grant NINETY-NINES, INC., OKLAHOMA CITY OKLAHOMA (November 4, 2014) Lightspeed Aviation Foundation has awarded the Ninety-Nines a $6,000 grant in Lightspeed’s annual Pilots Choice Award grant competition. This year Lightspeed awarded grants to the eight aviation nonprofit organizations which received the most on-line votes on Lightspeed’s grant competition web site. The Lightspeed grant competition inspired the 99s to broaden our outreach, meet many new friends and talk to them about flight training, aviation and the 99s. The Ninety-Nines are grateful to all the members, supporters, and friends in the aviation community who cast their votes for us and encouraged their colleagues, friends and family to vote. The Ninety-Nines plan to use this year’s award to expand outreach activities and participation and presence at aviation events. The grant will also enable the Ninety-Nines to promote and award a national solo scholarship to provide a young woman between 16 and 20 years of age with financial assistance for flight training through first solo and beyond. The 99s will partner with the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and award the scholarship at AirVenture in Oshkosh in the summer of 2015. The Ninety-Nines was established in 1929 by 99 women pilots with Amelia Earhart as its first President. Today, with nearly 5,000 members, one of the key missions of the organization is to promote advancement of aviation through scholarships, educations and mutual support. Over the past 75 years the organization has awarded well over 700 scholarships, helping hundreds of women achieve their aviation dreams. The Lightspeed Aviation Foundation was established in 2010 out of the commitment and passion of Lightspeed Aviation Corporation to serve the aviation community.
