The No1 song in the US on this day, October 5th 1960, was Hit The Road Jack by Ray Charles from the album, The Genius Hits The Road originally and making an appearance on over 20 R&B compilations and Ray Charles compilation and live albums. It would peak at No6 in the UK. Written by Rays good friend Percy Mayfield, who wrote many songs performed first by Ray. This song was the second of Rays 3 No1 hits in the US. The solo backing vocals are performed by Margie Hendricks one of the Raelettes and one of his lovers for a time.
