The No1 song in the US on this day, September 25th 1974, was Rock Me Gently by Andy Kim from his self-titled album. It peaked at No2 in the UK. He was a veteran songwriter who had written several bubblegum pop hits, including songs for the Monkees and Sugar Sugar for the cartoon band The Archies. In 1974 he formed his own label, Ice Records, and personally financed the recording sessions for Rock Me Gently. He could only afford to cut 2 sides so he put an instrumental of the song on the B-side of the record. The song debuted in June 1974 and took 14 weeks to reach number one. It would be his last top ten hit in either country.....Enjoy!
