The North American B-25 Mitchell medium bomber entered service in 1941and saw action with many air forces beside the USAAC. Almost 10,000 were built, in a number of versions, and some continued working for 40 years. The Mitchell answered the need for a medium bomber as well as a ground attack aircraft, with a range of adaptations including replacing the forward section with a solid nose containing either a large (75mm) cannon or an extra eight 0.50 machine guns. The glass nosed B-25J was armed with 12 x 12.7mm machine guns, up to 3,000 lb of bombs. The solid nosed B-25J was armed with 18 x 12.7mm machine guns, 8 of which were in the nose replacing the 75mm cannon of the earlier versions. This example is a B-25H of the Uruguayan Air Force circa 1951.
