The North West Police in Bloemhof are on high alert following the circulation of a pamphlet which urges the community to go on strike. The action is apparently in support of those appearing in court for their involvement in the violent service delivery protests of last March. More than eighty people are accused of public violence, arson and malicious damage to property. Fourteen accused appeared in court on Monday on charges including public violence. Forty more are expected to appear on Tuesday. All the accused are out on bail. Bloemhof police spokesperson Keagoleboga Majikela, said they have measures in place to deal with the issue. The mayor of Lekwateemane, Kagiso Palagangwe said the invitation to people to go on strike was “definitely a criminal act. We would like to urge them to allow our justice system to take its place, let those that must appear before the court go to court. But some in the community believe people arrested for last years incident should be released. As members of the community we really feel that their charges must be dismissed, said community spokesperson Lekgotlha Leshonang.
