The North West is taking great steps to improve FIFO lifestyle, calling for better regulation of mining camps. Both Karratha and Port Hedland are leading the efforts to better integrate fly-in, fly-out workers into the community. Quoting the ABC article below; “Karrathas population has grown from 16,998 in 2003/04 to 25,907 in 2013/14. Building approvals jumped from $56.6 million to $518 million over the same 10-year period. Nearby Port Hedland has recently imposed tough new rules on mining work camps to encourage more workers to become permanent residents of the town.” Do you agree that FIFO workers should be encouraged to integrate into the communities where they work? What do you think this proposed legislation will do for the local property markets?
