The Norwegian Refugee Council is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced persons. We advocate for their rights and assist with shelter, education, food distribution, and counselling on repatriation NRC seeks: Education Project Officer (national staff position) Gaza City NRC works internationally in the field of education and in the Gaza Strip in a project to support UNRWA. NRC works with UNRWA on teacher capacity building and training, parental skills for education and communication between schools and parents. This project is now entering its fourth year and NRC is seeking to expand its education team. Overall responsibility: The Education Officer is responsible for carrying out all activities and liaison with their designated schools, including students, teachers, school management and school community. The focus of the work of the education officer is with parents and school management. Main duties and responsibilities: -Undertake assessments of designated schools, including FGD etc and translating information into needs, (collecting data.) -Ensure involvement of school management, students, teachers and wider community in activities undertaken in the programme including assessment and maintain good relationships with all parties. -Preparation of all parent and teacher training material. -Delivery of training material and courses. -Work with school management on communication with parents and community. -Collaborate with partner NGO to ensure effective delivery of parental support work. -Keep accurate records of assessment, activities and participation. -Ensure that all activities are carried out with the active inclusion of all community members (especially girl children and adolescents, female and male parents, teachers and guardians and children with disabilities and special needs.) -Quickly report to line management any concerns with safety, security and child protection. -Develop personal monthly work plan and contribute to team work planning. -Work with the monitoring and evaluation unit to ensure that data is collected and recorded appropriately. -Carry out any other relevant duties as requested by supervisor. Academic and Professional Qualifications -Bachelor’s degree in education. -Teacher training or equivalent social work qualifications highly desirable. -Advanced degree in education or social science highly desirable. Relevant Experience -At least 3 years of education specific experience. -Experience of research and participatory needs assessments. -Experience of teaching, youth work and/or school management; -Experience of and commitment to participatory approaches to aid and development. Desirable Experience -Experience of working with or within the UNRWA system; -Experience in non-formal education -Experience of community mobilisation and working through volunteers -Experience with monitoring and evaluation including data collection Knowledge, Skills & Personal Attributes -Good command of English and Arabic, both written and orally; -Computer literacy; -Ability to plan, organise and manage own time; -Ability to be flexible and resourceful; -Good communication and interpersonal skills; -Strong organizational and team working skills; -Commitment to the ideals of NRC including child protection, inclusion and gender equality; -Ability to always be punctual and meet deadlines; -Facilitation skills.
