Door Prizes this month – Reams of copy paper and resource books PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS (YOU WILL CHOSE ONE) (Math) Transformations and Functions: Making the Connection Make variables and functions more interactive, and more fun for your students. In this session you will receive classroom-ready activities that you can use as whole-class Sketchpad presentations or for hands-on student exploration. Well discuss how best to use the activities with students and how they are connected to Common Core. Well work through some of them using Sketchpad to make the mathematics come alive, while taking advantage of the connections between transformations and functions to relate these two areas of mathematics. This months activities turn geometric transformations into algebraic functions, imparting a sense of the deep connections between geometry and algebra and providing students with multiple representations to help them experience and understand function behavior. Bring your computer and get a free copy of Sketchpad. (Sketchpad licenses are available to Philadelphia public schools through the School District.) Scott Steketee will present. Math Three Act Math Tasks: Philadelphia Engineering/Math Challenge (EMC)Max Ray and Suzanne Alejandre from the Math Forum @ Drexel will introduce an online opportunity for your students to submit their Three Act Math Task entries.
