The Nowergup fire has just been downgraded to an advice level. Heres the latest advice from the DFES. Bushfire ADVICE for Nowergup and the western part of Pinjar in the City of Wanneroo Monday 26 January 2015 - 9:00 PM A bushfire ADVICE has been issued for people between Carabooda Road and south to Hester Avenue, Wanneroo Road and east to Perry Road, in Nowergup and the western part of Pinjar in the City of Wanneroo. • The alert level for this fire has been downgraded as the fire is now under control. • There is no threat to lives or homes but there is a some smoke in the area • Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes. • The fire started south of Wesco Road and west of Hopkins Road. BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR: • The bushfire is now contained and under control. WHAT TO DO: • Stay alert and monitor your surroundings. • Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames. • Read through your bushfire survival plan. • If you do not have a plan decide what you will do if the situation gets worse. IF DRIVING: • Be extremely careful when driving through the area. • Turn your headlights on and drive slowly. • Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions. • If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears. • If you have a respiratory condition and you have been affected by smoke you should contact your local doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222. ROAD CLOSURES: Avoid the area and be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel working on site. A number of roads have been closed including: • Wesco Road between Gibbs Road and Old Yanchep Road • Old Yanchep Road between Cuttler Road and Westco Road WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING: • One hundred career and volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, Bush Fire Service and Department of Parks and Wildlife firefighters are on the scene. • Firefighters are strengthening containment lines, mopping up and will monoitor the area overnight. EXTRA INFORMATION: • The incident was reported at 2.20pm on Monday 26 January. • Ninety eight hectares were burnt during the bushfire. • The cause of the fire is unknown. • People are asked to report any suspicious behaviour to Police Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. • The temporary evacuation centre at Gumblossom Community Centre has now closed. • The Shire of Wanneroo is managing the fire.
