The OCH Regional Medical Center Auxiliary is seeking active volunteers for the 2014-15 year. Contributing numerous volunteer hours each year to the hospital, the OCH Auxiliary is involved in many different areas that benefit the patients, staff and visitors of the hospital. Their goal, according to OCH Director of Volunteer Services Elaine Baker, is to supplement the efforts of the hospital staff, allowing busy staff members the time necessary to fulfill their first priority: administering care to patients. The auxiliary sponsors several throughout the year, which includes providing gifts to hospital patients 12-years-old and younger and providing scholarships to students perusing a degree in the medical field. In addition, the group assists the Starkville City Schools’ Department of Family Centered Programs with the delivery of “Books for Babies” packets to all new mothers at OCH. The Auxiliary holds business meetings during the year; each features a guest speaker and informative program in addition to covering routine business. They also gather at a spring luncheon, during which Auxiliary members are recognized for their service and new officers are installed. “The Auxiliary is a great way to get involved in the community. You can volunteer as much time as you like and select the programs/projects in which you would like to participate,” Baker said Anyone 18 or older who is interested in joining the OCH Auxiliary is encouraged to attend the annual membership coffee at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, September 11 in the OCH Educational Facility. Questions regarding membership should be directed to membership chairperson Suzanne Dressel, at (662) 268-8145 or ssdressel115@gmail. The OCH Auxiliary also offers a limited number of junior volunteer positions during the summer months to high school students. Those interested in the junior volunteer program should contact Baker in the spring at (662) 615-3065 or [email protected].
