The Observer just received the following message from Chris Corbett, the deputy police chief of the Waterbury Police Department... Waterbury Police investigated a suspicious item/explosive device tonight outside the Police Department. A male complainant came to the Police Department around 7:30 pm tonight with a knapsack containing what he believed to be two pipe bombs. The complainant left the knapsack on the sidewalk outside the Department. The Police Department was not evacuated and continued normal operations, but vehicular and pedestrian traffic around the building was detoured and a nearby house was evacuated. The State Police bomb squad responded and neutralized the items. No injuries occurred. Traffic is open and the residents have returned to their home. The investigation is ongoing at this time to determine the source of the items.
