The October 17th raid changed our lives forever. As tough as we want to be, that moment forever impacted our lives. The system is successful in their fear tactics when we are traumatized by their inflicted violence, when we are only attempting to assert our nationhood on the ground. Colonialism is designed to Displace us from our traditional territories, create a state dependency, and has criminalized us as peoples when we attempt to re-claim what was once ours. Did that day change me? Yes. Am I going to allow that change to make a negative impact on my life? No. However, we must take a careful reflection at our lives and the sacrifices that we must make for our people in order to emancipate our indigenous nations. An elder once told me, stop being selfish in your worries. You are not that important. She went on to state that when we are crying, and feeling sorry for our current situation that we are being selfish and not allowing ourselves to live to our full potential.
