The Offer out of 2014 Melbourne Cup Nic Ashman - 28/10/2014 Sydney Cup winner The Offer is out of this years Melbourne Cup leaving the 2013 winning trainer Gai Waterhouse without a runner. The Offer was under a fitness cloud heading into the Caulfield Cup on October 18 but took his place in the $3 million feature before only managing an 11th place finish. Jockey Tommy Berry reported post-race the horse didnt really stretch out like I know he can. On Tuesday, it was confirmed The Offer will not start in the Melbourne Cup adding further woes to a tumultuous spring for Berry. He galloped the best hes gone last Saturday so Im really disappointed hes out of play, Berry said. I havent had much luck with horses staying sound that Im booked to ride. Berry went through three possible Cox Plate rides before landing Foreteller as his mount and is now without a ride in Australias greatest race. Only three horses holding down places in the top 24 spots for the Melbourne Cup have not had their jockeys announced. They are Sea Moon, Au Revoir and Araldo.
