The Office of Women’s Health and the FDA have just put out an announcement discouraging fetal imaging for keepsake videos and other non-medical purposes during pregnancy. 1.usa.gov/1wexBCF Keepsake images or videos are reasonable if they are produced during a medically-indicated exam, and if no additional exposure is required. The FDA is concerned about over-the-counter sale of prescription fetal ultrasound heartbeat monitors that when used by untrained persons, could expose the fetus to prolonged and unsafe energy levels or could provide information that is interpreted incorrectly.
