The Ogun State Government has stepped up security and surveillance along border areas in other to ensure the state remains Ebola free. The Commissioner for Health in the State, Dr Olaokun Soyinka made this known at a press briefing organised by the ministry on thursday to inform the general Public about the status of the disease in the country. Dr Soyinka made it known that the Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has authorized further training of health workers, purchase of protective. equipment for health workers and other agencies. He explained that the arrival of the diseases necessitated increased action particularly in informing the general public about the signs and symptoms of Ebola, the behavior of the virus and how to protect themselves. He noted that maintaining Personal hygiene with regular hand washing with soap, water or use of sanitizers should be the measures to be taken by the general public, while unnecessary physical contacts especially with people arriving from destinations in West Africa or who are known contacts with victims should be avoided. The nation is rightly concerned about the spread of the Ebola virus and this press conference is to inform the general public about the disease, the status of Ebola in Nigeria, and explain actions to take to ensure we remain Ebola free in Ogun State, thus helping to end the incursion of the disease in the nation. Governor Ibikunle Amosun has authorized further training of our health workers, large scale purchase of protective equipment for health workers and other agencies and has stepped up security along our borders.
