The Onion Chopper Just a Christmas memory……..It had been a hard year......Each year when we lived in the state of Indiana, where Charlie was a hopeful Seminary student, we had to wait til the last minute while Charlie would go to his secular job Christmas party. There they would give him his nice Christmas bonus. This would give us money to make the long Christmas trip back to my childhood home in Newton Hamilton......... Josh was almost three years old............he and his little dog Muffy would play and have so much fun while the Christmas music rolled on. We had only enough time after the Christmas bonus party to barely make it home........ The weather was always a concern……… Sometimes the temps outside were very cold by then, and our cars were never very dependable.......but Charlie always was.......and resourceful as well.......I bathed Josh in the sink, and then bathed Muffy and put a Christmas bow around his neck, so he would smell good and be all Christmasy for the trip.......That morning I had cleaned the car and our mobile home and had packed most of our things, then it was our tradition for me to decorate our home tree and make a big pot of chili..... I had one really nice tool. It was an onion chopper and I liked it a lot......It was always a time saver........As I began to chop the onion, it broke into two pieces and I was so tired and frustrated, I just started to cry. Josh was little, but still came over with his little dog and put his arms around me because thats what his Daddy did when I was sad. Then he disappeared for a little while, playing with Muffy in his room, I thought.........After a little while he reappeared with a present wrapped in a Christmas napkin...........It had scribbles on it that I recognized as his name .............Here Mommy, he said, and handed it to me with great care..........I unrolled the napkin and inside was a Christmas cup with a plastic fork pushed through the top.....Its for you, he said.........Its an onion chopper...........I was amazed by his creativity at such a young age, but more by his love, and that is ever our Josh................It is one of my favorite things in life........Every year, as I get out the ornaments, there are none I love better than the onion chopper made for me with so much love and care by our dear little Josh............ I think of how hard that must have been for such a tiny boy and what a beautiful act of love it was......It was Jesus Birthday.......but from the tiny hands of my child, I recognized His signature on the gift......
