The Ontario government will pay another $74-million to cover - TopicsExpress

The Ontario government will pay another $74-million to cover unforeseen costs and shortfalls for 2015 Pan Am Games. Ontario is spending $2.5-billion to host the Pan Am Games, nearly $1-billion more than the original estimate from the organizing committee. The new money will cover a $25-million revenue shortfall in sponsorships and other cost overruns. The security budget is also through the roof, at $239-million, up from the original estimate of $133-million. The $2.5-billion does not include the cost of the athletes village, pegged at $243-million. Organizers say they can sell the athletes village for a profit when the games conclude. At $2.5 billion dollars (and counting), do you think the Pan Am Games will be a worthwhile project for Ontario? Rob Snow will take your calls on this topic at 4:40 at 521 TALK.
