The Open Society Foundations Fellowship Program June 24, 2014 Deadline: 4 August 2014 The open Society Foundation has a fellowship opportunity for individuals seeking innovative and unconventional approaches to fundamental open society challenges. The candidate may be a journalist, activist, academic, and practitioner in a variety of fields with demonstrated professional accomplishment in the chosen subject area. The fellows will get an opportunity to join the network of activists and institutions defending civil society and improving the lives of the world’s most vulnerable citizens. They will spend a portion of their fellowship term at one of the Foundation’s main offices, or at a regional foundation. The fellows will participate in conferences and program events and may also run a seminar which help in broadening their understanding. On the basis of work experience, seniority, and current income, the full-time fellows will receive a stipend of $80,000 to $100,000. They will also receive a project budget that may include travel costs, visa costs, part-time research assistance, conference fees and health insurance. Focus Areas Human Rights Government Transparency Access to Information Access to Justice Promotion of Civil Society Social Inclusion The fellowship project may be to publish books, reports, or blogs; innovate public-education projects; launch new campaigns or organizations; host panel discussions; travel to conferences; participate in policy debates; promote ideas in public venues; produce photography, documentary film or other cultural production. Eligibility Criteria The fellowship is open for individuals around the world. Applicants must be idea entrepreneurs ready to challenge conventional wisdom. The applicant must be an individual applying for her/his fellowship project (not a team work). Applicants must be proficient in English language. Project theme must comply with one of the above mentioned ‘focus areas’. Fellows who wish to work on their project in a country in which they do not have citizenship must satisfy and comply with applicable visa requirements. Proposals cannot be made to cover the operational or programmatic costs (employees and physical infrastructure). Note: Applications must be made via online application system. Applicants without internet access may send an application by post which must reach by the deadline. The online application system will be available from 1 July 2014.
