The Opportunity Cost of President Goodluck Jonathan Endorsement By - TopicsExpress

The Opportunity Cost of President Goodluck Jonathan Endorsement By PDP Governors. In Economics we are taught the concept of opportunity cost as the foregone alternative. In laymans explanation: If I have 500 pieces of cowries and I have two pressing needs - food and thirst. I need to eat and I also want to satisfy my thirst. The resources available is limited so I draw up a scale of preference, thus: 1) Amala, Ewedu, Gbegiri, Orisirisi with pure water = N500. 2) Big Stout = N500. If I settle for Amala and Ewedu, et al, the opportunity cost is the Big Stout which I have to forgo in order to address my stomach infrastructural need. This brings us to the decision by all the governors of the Peoples Democratic Party to endorse the second or if you like, third Missionary journey of President Jonathan. What is the opportunity cost of such wholesale blanket endorsement without any dissenting voice? I just heard with one ear that the support for the second term aspiration of President Goodluck Jonathan was not done until the governors were able to get some commitments from the President. It was gathered that the governors discussed openly the alternative that must be forego before they support the President for the 2015 race. OPPORTUNITY COST OF 2015: * The governors were said to have been assured that they would not be harassed by the agents of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission after leaving office because of their support. * A governor, who played a prominent role in the endorsement of the President by his colleagues, also said the President had agreed that all the outgoing governors are free to pick their successors. * Another governor, who spoke, said the party and the President would support any of the governors who is interested in coming to the Senate. He said, “Because of this, just like the Presidential Convention on December 6 will be a formality, so it is going to be in most of our states on November 29 as we are going to be the one to pick our successors.” And there you have it! Leadership succession in a Cabalocracy, which is a variant of democracy and a unique Nigeria contribution to modern civilization and the advancement of democratic principles. A few group of twerp inebriated fron expensive cognac, champagne and what ever intoxicant catches their fancy, gathered in a room somewhere and select among themselves who will emerge as successors whic they push down the throats of the people? And we call this sham a democracy? Interesting, is it? This democracy looks like a midget in chemo - wig! This democracy is flawed but we cannot help but love democracy in the true sense of the word democracy - Government of the PEOPLE, by the PEOPLE, for the PEOPLE!
