The Osun State Police Command has arraigned a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Rasidi, before a Magistrate’s Court in Osogbo for allegedly giving false information to the police. It was gathered that the couple had claimed that one Olatunji Abiodun stole N300,000 from their house, but the police found out that Mr. Rasidi borrowed N850,000 from Abiodun, and failed to pay back on the agreed date. It was further gathered that Abiodun later went to the accused persons’ house to ask for his money and the couple conspired and lied against him that he stole N300,000 during his visit. The police prosecutor, Inspector Solomon Oladele, told the court that the offence committed by the accused is contrary to and punishable under Section 421 and 192 of theCriminal Code Cap 34 vol. 11 Laws of Osun State, Nigeria. However, the couple pleaded not guilty to thetwo count charge of cheating and giving of false information to the police. The accused persons’ counsel, Nnajite Okobie, sought bail for his clients, assuring the court that they would not jump bail. The presiding magistrate, Olusola Aluko, granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned till August 28, 2013.
