The O’Shea Family - TopicsExpress

The O’Shea Family …………………….. …………….proudly continuing a tradition Derry O’Shea When the Kerry Soccer Referees formed a society in 1972 their first chairman was Derry O’Shea, who was held in high regard by all involved in the game in Kerry. It was a fitting tribute to a man who had travelled all over the country to officiate at games. Before taking up refereeing he was involved with Tralee Dynamos both as a player, with whom he won numerous honours, and at official level as chairman and secretary. Nothing gave him greater pleasure than preparing the Tralee Dynamos grounds for their home games. In July 2003 Derry passed from this life at the age of 58. He will be remembered Forever for his unselfish and total commitment to soccer in Kerry. What he did for the youth of the town of Tralee could never be properly quantified. Adrian O’Shea In 2013, at the age of 40, Adrian O’Shea followed in his fathers footsteps by taking up refereeing when his playing career, which started by playing for Tralee Dynamos at senior level at 16 years of age. He was also to play a number of seasons with Ballymac Celtic and Boherbue Santos. He is one of the most popular referees in the county and has officiated at league and cup finals. He is particularly patient with players at under-age level and is quick to explain to the younger players what they have done wrong and help them to understand the rules of the game. Derek O’Shea Though a number of years younger than his brother, Derek O’Shea (34) took up refereeing before Adrian when he decided in 2012 that refereeing was his future. An accomplished goal keeper Derek played in the Munster Senior League with Tralee Dynamos. He won every honour in Kerry soccer, including two league titles with Lisselton Rovers. Despite all the trophies he won he freely admits that the greatest moment of his playing career was winning the Brendan ‘Bawnie’ O’Driscoll Tournament in 2012. His impact, as a referee, was immediate in Kerry soccer. His imposing physique and his comparatively young age combined with a recent player knowledge of the game has impressed all to such an extent that he was the referees assistant for the 2013 Munster Junior Cup Final.. He is without doubt an official who will certainly go further. Composed by Christy Leahy
