The PBA Draft 2014 Prediction: Breaking down each round By Vanz Sta. Ana Here’s my prediction as per draft order: First Round 1. Globalport – Stanley Pringle – 6’1″ Point Guard, Pasco-Hernando State College. He played for the Indonesia Warriors in the ASEAN Basketball League as an import. He is an athletic point guard who can shoot. Reports in youtube touted him as playing like Jayson Castro and can shoot like Alapag. There are issues on the money side which hopefully can be remedied. 2. Rain or Shine (from Meralco Bolts) – Matt Ganuelas Rosser – 6’5″ Forward, Cal St. Poly University. Matt played for Gilas Pilipinas and NLEX in the D-League. A Gabe Norwood type of player, one that slashes to the basket and can finish with highlight dunks. He also has the ability to defend either a guard or a forward. 3. Barako Bull – Chris Banchero – 6’1″ Point Guard, Seattle Pacific University. He played for SMB in ABL and D-League. Banchero is the first ever number one pick of D-League. He is probably the best pure point guard in the draft. 4. NLEX – Jake Pascual – 6’5″ Center/Forward, San Beda. Jake played for NLEX in the D-League. He is a strong Rebounder and effective Shot Blocker. One that can help Asi Taulava in manning the post. 5. Alaska – Kevin Alas -6’0″ Combo Guard, Letran. He showed his wares for NLEX in the D-League and for Gilas Pilipinas in the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup. An active shooter and fearless in penetrating the lane, he can be an understudy under veterans Dondon Hontiveros and Cyrus Baguio. 6. Ginebra – Ronald Pascual – 6’2″ Forward, San Sebastian. A forward who plays like former NLEX team mate Calvin Abueva but, has a better outside touch. He is also a high leaper that gives him the confidence to penetrate in the lane and grabbing rebounds. 7. San Mig (from San Miguel via Barako Bull) – Rodney Brondial – 6’5″ Forward, Adamson. A player that is well suited for the triangle offense of San Mig. A decent rebounder, which if picked, can be the future frontline player for the Mixers once Joe DeVance retires. 8. Barako Bull (from Talk N’ Text) – Prince Caperal – 6’6″ Center, Arellano. Prince is a good rebounder and decent defender. He can also score on inside plays. He can help the aging frontline of Mick Pinnisi and Dorian Peña. 9. Rain or Shine – Harold Arboleda – 6’2″ Guard/Forward, UPH-Las Pinas. A solid rebounder for his size, he can also shoot the ball beyond the three point region. Arboleda would be a nice reliever for Jeff Chan and Jireh Ybanes. 10 Barako Bull (from San Mig) – Phillip Morrison -6’0″ Point Guard, Ausbury University. Has the ability to hurt opponents inside and outside ala Deron Williams. Has good ball handling and will compliment very well feeding the ball to shooters like Gary David. 11. KIA – Manny Pacquiao – 5′ 6 1/2″ Point Guard, Saranggani Province. The Saranggani Congressman played for his team MP Pacman Warriors in Invitational Tournaments in the Mindanao. An intense player on the court, he can also bury three pointers. Problem is he starting at a tender age of 35 years old. He’s an 8-Division Boxing Champion and KIA’s head coach. 12. Blackwater – Philip Paredes -6’5″ Center/Forward, DLSU. He is a great pick. A nice rebounder and a banger that can help ease the burden of veteran Danny Ildefonso who is the first overall pick of the expansion draft. Should improve his defense and shot selection.
