The Park in the Highlands by Jack Amanti A landlocked isle A long lost mile or two Set within the scape of a citys view Yet, apart, and unknown, but for the fortunate few For whom a home was forged among hillsides hewned between the rocks and the river, and away from the new and burdensome slew of citification undue. Stood long against the press of time, and strangers, and metropolis, Grew here many generations in peace and in open, playful spaces With neighbors and friends known by family, and by name, and familiar faces, found among the confines of its boundaries, and enlivened by its varied cultures with their infinite graces borne here from most of this worlds most far-away places. In streets of light and dark, untrafficked and untrammeled by a rising tide of commerce and ambitions stark betrayal of the ground beneath its feet, Children laughed and ran, and played hide n seek, and joined in the revels afforded by a humble and modest and hard-working elite that adhered to the sensible yet attained the unique. And together, in this Park, In these Highlands, Away from the rage of the city at our gates, And inside of this sheltered and shared historic space, Let us strive to sustain, as one and the same, all of the beauty and life to be had in this place of now legendary fame: Highland Park.
