The Parking Enforcement Management Administration of the DC Department of Public Works (DPW) is currently accepting qualified bi-lingual candidate applications for consideration of noncompetitive, term appointments within the position of Parking Enforcement Officer. A term appointment is an appointment with a specific time limitation, initially set at 13 months. Employment under a term appointment shall end automatically on the expiration of the appointment, unless the appointment is extended in compliance with District Personnel Manual regulations. An employee serving under a term appointment shall not acquire permanent employment status without further competition. Position: Parking Enforcement Officer CS-1802-06 Numerous Vacancies A Parking Enforcement Officer performs enforcement field work by patrolling assigned areas, providing the enforcement of city ordinances and regulations governing non-moving traffic violations; patrols assigned areas on foot or by operating a motor vehicle to conduct surveillance of the Districts streets and roadways for citations of various non-moving traffic violations; responds to citizen complaints for immediate enforcement; and provides pedestrians and motorists with directions for traveling throughout the city. Qualifications: - Candidate must meet the minimum qualification requirements for the Parking Enforcement Officer position. - Candidate must have the ability to correctly apply parking regulations, precedents, and operational methods to ensure that proper citations are issued. - Candidate must possess and be able to maintain a valid drivers license. - Candidate must be able to work a variety of shifts, which may include Saturday or Sunday and accept shift assignment change without negotiation within five (5) days notice. - Candidate must be able to walk up to ten (10) miles during a period up to seven (7) hours every day. - Candidate must be able to continually bend and carry light items during the performance of their daily activities. - Candidate must be able to perform their duties and responsibilities outdoors, in all types of weather; including severe weather conditions such as rain, snow, and sleet, heavy pollen, and hot and cold temperatures. - Candidate must be able to withstand loud noises, vehicular exhaust and possibly uncooperative and hostile behavior from members of the general public. - Candidate must have knowledge of the District of Columbias geographical areas. Consideration Preferences: - Demonstrated conversational fluency and ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English and an additional language. - Ability to consider alternative and diverse perspectives, to remain poised under all circumstances, and to interact effectively with people in a positive manner that promotes confidence and trust. - A commitment to public service, demonstrated in part by prior experience providing customer service in the public, private or non-profit sector. - Possession of a strong work ethics, the capacity to learn quickly, and a desire to continuously develop as a professional. - Computer skills and/or literacy. Compensation/Benefits: - Grade 6 - Starting Base Salary $34,893 ($16.77 hourly) - Appointee will be eligible for health and life insurance, annual (vacation) and sick leave and will be covered under the District of Columbia Governments various employee benefit programs. - Appointee will be provided a distinctive uniform that must be worn throughout their tour of duty. - Appointee will be provided with 9-weeks of Parking Enforcement Officer training. - This position is in the collective bargaining unit.
