The Passion readings for Palm Sunday, (Matthew 26:14-27:66) show a number of people being pushed to their breaking point. Judas is pushed to handing over Jesus and even to the point of taking his own life. Peter is pushed to the point of betraying Christ. Pilate is pushed to the condemning of an innocent man. Throughout the story people are pushed to their breaking point and when pushed they succumb to the pressures of this world and forsake God. All except Christ. Jesus is pushed at the Last Supper and in response gives us the framework of the Sacrament of Eucharist. Jesus is pushed further and goes to the garden in prayer to God. Jesus is pushed ultimately to an earthly death and again calls on his Heavenly Father. When Christ was pushed to the very edge and was in a Fight or Flight situation, he instead chose to Forgive. He was able to do so because of his reliance on his Father, not merely himself. May Christs Passion be a shining example for us all to cling close to God when were pushed by an unrelenting world.
