“The Past Versus The Present” Destiny has seen to it that the past and present landlords of world football in Brazil and Spain come face-to-face to compete for the confederation cup trophy this Sunday at the Estadio Maracana in Rio de Janeiro. This is one of the few fixtures the football community has been yearning for over the last five years in that, since the ascendancy of Spain to the pinnacle of world football in 2008 they have never tested themselves against the Samba boys. Many football fans are rubbing their hands in anticipation of this event that promises to be a special and exciting occasion. This match promises to be a special one in that, Spain is hoping to atone for their disappointment in South Africa during the last edition of the Confederation Cup in 2009 and is also impatient to add the only missing slice of the pizza to their international trophy cabinet. On the other hand, Brazil is hoping to defend their back-to-back title and bring the thieve to justice that stole their position in world football and reinstate themselves as the numero uno of the beautiful game. Brazil procured their ticket to the occasion after defeating Uruguay 2-1 at the Belo Horizonte’s Mineirao Stadium on Wednesday night courtesy of Paulinho 84th minute header. Spain on the other hand, squeeze their way into the final after a hard-fought semi-final win over European rival Italy last night in a match that was force to be decided by post match penalties after both teams failed to find the back of the net over 120 minutes of play. Jesu Navas brilliantly converted the Spaniard seventh penalty after Juventus Leaonardo Bonucci carelessly kicked his penalty out of target that subsequently schedule the dream final of world football. This much talk about and anticipated final is expected to be season with eye-catching displays and sublime trickery from either side, in that both teams possesses talents that are equally capable of lighting the terraces of world football. The Spanish National team roster needs no introduction to world football, in that, it is fill with abundance of talents that have dominated world football for the last five years. This is the team that houses five of the best players in the world by positions in Iker Cassilas, Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique, Xavi Hernadez and Andre Inista. Additionally, this team also has in its ranks players like David Silva, Fernando Torres, Sergio Busques, Cesc Fabregas, Juan Mata, Pedro Rodriguez and Santi Carzola. On the hand, the Brazilian National team is a street behind its Spanish counterpart from the perspective of experience and establishment; however, the Selacoa roster is also jam pack with wealth of talents which also include two of the best players in the world by positions in Marcelo and Dani Alves, and has in its ranks the blistering and scintillating Neymar, decisive Oscar, Thiago Silva, David Luiz, Luis Gustavo, Paulinho, Incredible Hulk, Fred, Bernard, Julio Ceasar, Lucas Moura and the Lazio maestro Harnanes. The rosters of these two teams confirms that the football community is set to be served with one of the well flavor dinners the province of football will not have to consume any time soon. At a final note, it’s no coincidence that these two countries names begin with the exact same letters that begin the words special and beautiful. Their football is a joy to behold, distinctive enough to draw saliva from mouth and thrilling to ignite dreams. All I can say is that let grace ourselves for the match of the century, it is ours to enjoy. #seeu@theestadiomaracanainriodejaneiroonsunday#
