The Patients Association this week reports that more than 4000 care homes are being allowed to break the law by the Care Quality Commission by not having a registered manager in charge of residents, even though its Chief Executive has admitted that such homes are far more likely to be putting vulnerable people at risk. Of these, around a quarter have not had a registered manager for more than two years. CQC Chief Executive David Behan said: “homes without registered managers have very high levels on non-compliance (with CQC standards). It’s not acceptable to run a home without a registered manager in place and to do so will result in a sanction”. Care homes are required by law to have a registered manager who is legally responsible for the quality of services in care homes and any failings that take place. What no-one seems to be asking is what are the CQC and the Patients Association going to do about this situation!!
