The Peacemaker - Extract from Chapter Eight. Just a little something to start your imaginations whirling. Lord Arnak started to speak, “So Chancellor of the manor, leader of the people.” He laughed as he said the words. “Will you kneel before me and cede to my ruling to spare your life?” The Chancellor looked Arnak in the eyes and said “I will never bow before a tyrant like you!” The soldier that stood behind him struck him across the back of the head with his heavily studded leather glove, knocking the Chancellor forward. His head crashed onto the stone paved path in front of him, splitting his forehead open. Blood gushed from the wound as he struggled back up into a kneeling position in front of this man who would be ruler. “Obviously you have little value for your life old man.” He said. Before the Chancellor had time to reply Lord Arnak whipped his sword through the air severing Chancellor Evans head from his body. His head bounced as it struck the floor and rolled down the stairs towards the people gathered below, while his body crumpled to the floor in front of the New Lord. The people were shocked at this sudden act of reprisal, it had reinforced his orders, submit or die!
